Many adults find that their favorite part of Disney is the food! Why? Because Disney World has a wide variety of restaurants to choose from! There are buffets, fine dining, many types of ethnic foods, burgers, pizza, beer, hot dogs, and great desserts! However, many struggle with their decision making as they decide where to go. Which places are “can’t miss”? What are some of the best places to eat at Disney World?
What are the “Can’t Miss Restaurants”?
Today we are going to discuss a few restaurants that you absolutely can’t miss. If you are planning a trip for the first time, or have never tried these restaurants, you can’t go wrong. They are very popular, have great food and atmosphere, and are enjoyed by veterans of Disney year after year!
Ohana is a sit-down restaurant located at the Polynesian Resort. They serve unlimited steak, shrimp, chicken, pork….Any warm-blooded male reading this is already sold! The food is phenomenal, and the sides, appetizers and desserts are also out of this world. It’s not a buffet, the servers come to your table and bring skewers of hot meat. You can eat as much or as little as you want! At night the Hawaiian-themed restaurant has activities for children which will keep them entertained while you gorge yourself. This is the one restaurant our family will not miss while at Disney World.
Boma is an African-themed buffet located in the Animal Kingdom lodge resort. The theming is amazing, the food is great, and it is an experience that you won’t experience very often, which is why it’s one of the most popular places in Disney! While they have food that everyone will like, such as chicken, pork and beef, there are so many different types of food to try, you can have a new experience each time you go! If you are a vegan, there are plenty of choices as well.
Chef Mickey’s is a buffet located at the Contemporary Resort. The buffet is very good, and no matter what your favorite type of breakfast is, you will find that there are so many choices that you’ll fill up and be completely satisfied. But the reason Chef Mickey’s is on our list is because it’s a character dining restaurant, and the “Big Five” are the characters! Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Pluto will come to your table, sign autographs, take pictures, and your kids will have a blast. If you are going without kids, you are probably free to skip it. But if you have children, Chef Mickey’s is one restaurant you don’t want to miss!
Le Cellier is a steakhouse located in the Epcot theme park, in the Canada pavilion. The steak is among the best in all of Disney. While the men come here for the steak, the women come here for the amazing side items and the world class culinary tastes that come out of the kitchen. The food is absolutely top-notch and anything you get will be cooked to perfection. The only downside to Le Cellier is that it’s expensive and will cost you two Dining credits. But if you are looking for a tremendous sit-down restaurant, you can’t go wrong with Le Cellier.
T-Rex is located in Downtown Disney, and if you have boys, you simply have to take them there! There are dinosaurs throughout the restaurant, and every 10-15 minutes the lights dim, the dinosaurs “roar” and your kids go crazy! The food is very good, but it’s the atmosphere that makes T-Rex a favorite family destination. It’s the one place my son remembers year after year!
The Sci-Fi restaurant is located in Hollywood Studios. I strongly recommend this for an afternoon meal after you’ve been up early and hit all the major attractions in Hollywood Studios. The atmosphere is what sets this restaurant apart! You eat in 50’s style cars, under the lights (no matter what time it is), you are attended to by carhops, and the food is American Cuisine at it’s best! Burgers, Fries, milkshakes, and if you are in the mood for a big meal, they have amazing steaks and pasta as well! Let’s face it, we can find great sit-down restaurants anywhere. But this is an experience unlike any you’ve had in a long time. Due to that, loyal patrons of the Sci-Fi restaurant always have this on their list!
Located at the Italy pavilion in Epcot, Via Napoli is quickly becoming one of the most popular restaurants in all of Disney World! Why? The pizza! Reviewer after reviewer agree that Via Napoli has among the best pizza in Disney, and many feel it’s one of the best pizzas they’ve ever had! However, if pizza isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other options that might appeal to you, especially if you are a fan of Italian pasta (and really, who isn’t?). Lasagna, linguine, bread, huge salads, this is an Italian lovers dream! As always at Disney World, the theming is amazing. You’ll think you are in Southern Italy!
Other Dining Options You Need to Try
These 7 restaurants are “can’t miss” restaurants, due to the reasons listed below each one. However, with so many types of food at Disney, it’s simply impossible to have a list that is perfect for everyone. If you don’t have children, take off Chef Mickey’s and T-Rex and add in a few others.
Typically my advice is consistent: Stick to your regulars and experiment with 1 or 2 restaurants each vacation. Friends and family may like some of your choices, and they may not like others. So don’t get too risky! Here are a few quick thoughts on a few of our other favorites!
Biergarten: This German themed restaurant has a buffet, a very entertaining dinner show and lots of German sausage! The cuisine might not be for everyone but it’s lots of fun!
California Grill: At the top of the Contemporary Resort, CG has a tremendous view of the fireworks and the food is expensive and amazing! A culinary work-of-art.
Victoria & Alberts: This is one of the more expensive restaurants in all of Disney. Fine dining at it’s finest! Bring your pocketbooks as its expensive!
San Angel Inn: The dark room with the big volcano and the Donald Duck ride! Your kids won’t forget this unique dining experience. The Mexican food is tremendous as well!
Be Our Guest!: The Magic Kingdom‘s foray into Fine dining and alcohol! It’s hard to get tickets, but there might not be a better atmosphere in all of Disney!
1900 Park Fare: Great buffet food, especially for breakfast. Your kids will love the fact that Mary Poppins, Alice, the Mad Hatter, Tigger and Winnie the Pooh come to the table!
Akershus: Many aren’t a fan of the Norwegian cuisine. It’s certainly unique. But having all the princesses come to your table makes it a thrilling experience for the little girls in your party!
Once you’ve decided where you want to eat, next you need to get your reservation booked! This isn’t as easy as it sounds. Disney’s restaurants are very popular and it’s easy to be disappointed. Let’s head to our section on reservations.
