Aerosmith Rock 'n' Roller Coaster

The Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster in Hollywood Studios is a huge hit with thrill seekers for a number of reasons. It’s fast. The acceleration is intense. And the Aerosmith theme and music is a great added touch. This ride is very popular, however, which can lead to some shocking wait times.
This article will have 3 parts. In part one, we’ll give you a brief overview of the history of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. In part two, we’ll give you a taste of what this ride is all about, and why it’s so popular. In part 3, you’ll get a few tips on how to best ride this attraction without standing in long lines!

Rock n Roller Coaster History

In 1999, the Rock n Roller Coaster ride first opened, with a party featuring Aerosmith, who play a large part in the success of the ride. The opening of this ride was a much-needed boost to a park that lacked in top-end attractions. Especially in the pre-Toy Story Mania days, this became the must-do ride in Hollywood Studios.

The Ride

You begin the ride in a large room, where you are treated to a behind the scenes look at Aerosmith in a recording studio. The show just lasts a couple of minutes, and then you are herded into the final area to board the ride.

As you sit down, you’ll notice that the padding and safety precautions are much more intense than you usually get at Disney. It’s important to keep your head and neck back, although you’ll have little choice once you get strapped in.

In just 2.8 seconds you go from 0 to 58 mph and hit 5Gs right from the start. There is a loop on the ride, and you’ll hit 4.5Gs during the loop.

If you love Aerosmith songs, you’ll love this ride, as speakers pump in a different Aerosmith song/track on each of the 5 different roller coasters, which gives each ride a different feel.

Wait times get very high after the first couple hours. After that, you’ll have very high wait times all day long. It’s hard to get around it. To make things worse, you can’t fastpass Rock n Roller coaster AND Toy Story Mania, as they are both Tier 1 rides.

Because Toy Story Mania has the highest overall wait times, we recommend using your fastpass on it and heading straight to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster when the park opens. Make sure to lineup 30-45 minutes ahead of time and head straight there.

Once you are done, the lines should still be short, so go ahead and ride it again. You won’t find wait times this short for the rest of the day, and if you follow our Hollywood Studios Touring plan, your first fastpass won’t happen until 9:30-10:30 at Tower of Terror.

Mousehints Tip: This is one of the best rides to use the single rider line on. You can skip a lot of the “fluff” and head straight to the ride. By the time you pull the thickly padded restraint down, you can barely see your partner anyway, so it’s really not a “bonding” experience!

On moderately busy days, you can ride this to your heart’s content without horrific waits, if you make good use of the single-rider line. It’s a great way to approach this ride if you fail to get there early.
