Disney World for Adults

It doesn’t get much better than seeing your child’s face light up when they are at Disney World.  But not everyone has children!  Children grow up and when they do, does Disney lose it’s luster?   We all know that WDW is a great place for kids, is Disney World for adults?

In many ways, Disney World can be even more fun without kids.  While it is perhaps the most kid-friendly park in the world, this article will highlight a few ways that you can have a blast as an adult.

Fine Dining

Nothing says a good time in America like good food.   Practically every type of food imaginable can be found.  Would you like a fine dining experience?  How about a “gorge-yourself buffet?”  In the mood for Japanese food?  Mexican?  Moroccan?  Food is one of the big draws at Disney World, and it’s much easier to eat without the children around!

Epcot is home to 11 different countries, and endless varieties of beer and adult beverages!  I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the “around the world” drinking game, however.  In the heat of Florida, you’d be fortunate to make it halfway around the World Showcase.  But over the course of a week, the variety is enough to keep you coming back to Epcot for more.  The World Showcase is without question the “Can’t Miss” attraction of Disney World for adults.

Night Life

Let’s take a look at some of the best that Disney World has to offer in terms of the night life:

ESPN CLUB – Want to watch a game?  Over 100 TV’s at this sports bar

House of Blues – Concerts and live music aren’t to be missed at this late night bar

Movie Theater – The AMC 24 Theatre allows you to catch a blockbuster or two

Shopping – This is self-explanatory.  There is no shortage of ways to spend your money shopping at Disney World.  Disney Springs is basically an outdoor shopping mall filled with souvenir shops and traditional stores.  Orlando also boasts some great outlet malls located very close to the Disney World resorts.

Big River Grille & Brewing Works – Sample a variety of beers on the Boardwalk

Don Shula’s Steakhouse – Try the 48 ounce Porterhouse!

These are just a few of the many adult attractions you’ll find.  There are many other lounges, bars and festivities taking place in Disney Springs, the Boardwalk and even many of the hotels.  If staying up late and having fun is your cup of tea, Disney is the place for you.

Sporting Events

Disney has 4 world-class Golf courses, and even a 9 hole course.  ESPN Wide World of Sports is a must-see for sports fans of any type.  In the spring you can even catch Atlanta Braves exhibition games, head to the Play-station Pavilion for video games, or catch some of the many amateur sporting events that take place all spring and summer long.  Don’t forget the water parks, which help you beat the heat no matter how old you are.

The Theme Parks

Whether you are young or old, the reason you go to Disney is the theme parks.  Without children, we can approach the parks completely different.  Without having to leave for naps, we can get there early, knock out all the rides, and stay until the park closes.  At all four of the parks, you likely will be able to fully explore any of the parks during a given day, as well as take in the food, festivities and parades.

By the way, there is nothing wrong with going to Fantasyland without children.  We all do it. 🙂

In summary, don’t let the name Disney scare you off from having an adult vacation.  Many couples have taken honeymoons here, and had a blast.  While it may not have the seclusion and relaxation that a trip to the beach can provide, there isn’t another place on earth that can provide as many things to do as Disney World.  It’s a wonderful place to be, whether you are young or old!

  • Overall RatingFoodServiceAtmospherePrice/ValueRomanceSuitable for ChildrenI have eaten at the Garden Grill twice in the past two years and loved it both times. The food is lovely and the ieoiractntn with the characters is fantastic. We first went there as a family of three (husband, son and myself) on Christmas Day 2009 and had a great time with Chip and Dale, Mickey and Pluto. All the characters interacted really well and, because it is quite small, had plenty of time to chat with us and, occasionally, each other. The most recent visit to the Garden Grill was in September 2011 for my birthday. This time my step-daughter (who was also celebrating her 25th birthday during our trip) was also with us. As my step-daughter and I were both wearing our birthday pins the characters immediately wished us happy birthday as only they can. As it was so quiet, we actually saw all of the characters 3 times! And they stopped to chat each time they came round. My step-daughter even asked Dale if he would like to come home with her and offered to leave her dad behind to do Dale’s job! Dale took my husband with him to the next table to give him some training but my husband didn’t respond well so we decided that maybe Dale should stay behind afterall. As my step-daughter and I were celebrating our birthdays, we both also got a small piece of the most wonderful chocolate cake with a candle. I thought that was a nice touch.I will definitely be going back to the Garden Grill on our next visit to WDW.
