If you are planning a trip to Disney World, you probably have noticed the option to purchase a Park Hopper as an addition to your package.  What is a Disney Park Hopper pass, do you need it, and how much does it cost?  Today we are going to discuss these three questions and give you the information you need to make a solid decision.

What is a Disney Park Hopper pass?

Essentially, it is a pass that allows you to use your regular ticket to enter multiple parks during the course of a single day.  Without it, you are forced to stay in one park and aren’t allow to “park hop” and visit multiple parks.

The park hopper can be used on any type of pass that you buy from Disney, whether it’s a single day pass, a ten-day pass or any package deals you might purchase from Disney.

Do I Need a Disney Park Hopper Pass?

There are a number of factors you need to consider before deciding whether you need this or not.

what is a disney park hopper pass

First of all, where are you going to be eating?  If you are planning to eat at Epcot on a number of different days, it might be crucial for you to get a park hopper.  Otherwise, you would be forced to tour only Epcot on each day that you eat there.

Second, have you planned out your trip?  If, for instance, you are planning four days in Disney, and you plan to spend one full day touring each park, a park hopper pass is probably a waste of money.  However, if you are unsure exactly what your disney park schedule is going to be, purchasing the park hopper could be good insurance.

Let’s look at a few reasons why you would buy it, as well as a few reasons why you might pass on this option.

Reasons to Add the Park Hopper

There are 5 reasons why you may want to add the park hopper.

  • You want maximum flexibility
  • You plan to try to squeeze as much into a short time period as possible
  • You will be there from opening to close
  • You are with a large group that will have this option
  • Insurance in case you arrive at a park and it is extremely crowded.  With the park hopper you can go to a different park
  • Reasons you may Skip the Park Hopper

There are 4 reasons why you may choose to skip the park hopper pass

  • You want to fully immerse yourself in one park for each day you are there
  • You have children that probably aren’t going to be able to stay at parks for an entire day
  • To save money!
  • Longer vacation, which could allow you plenty of time to see all the parks, without having to worry about hopping on any one particular day
  •
Personally, we always purchase the park hopper.  It gives us plenty of flexibility.  If it’s 2pm and we realize that we are done with a particular park, we can easily switch parks.  If the kids want to see a fireworks show after a day at the Magic Kingdom, we can do that.  The flexibility it provides to last-minute changes (which do happen!) is unparalleled.

How Much Does a Disney Park Hopper Pass Cost?

Currently (these prices are subject to change), it costs around 50 dollars to add the park hopper to a single-day pass, per person.  The prices rises to $55 dollars for any multiple-day ticket package that you purchase.  So whether you are staying 2 days or 10 days, it’s $57 dollars per person.

Especially when buying a longer pass, 5 dollars is pretty cheap.  If you have a family of four, you will pay 228 dollars to have total flexibility for your entire vacation.  It is well worth it, and I recommend it as a great addition to any plan.

Now that you’ve got the information to determine whether you need the park hopper, lets move on to planning a perfect Disney vacation!

    • Question, some of my family went and said that they got the hopper pass and it also allowed you to zip through the lines. Is this true? They stated they scanned the plastic card they got and it allowed them to “cut” people in line? Please help I am confused because they said this so I’m not sure what passes to purchase.

      • Jennie, I believe that you are confusing the hopper pass with the fast pass. A Fastpass is available for everyone that has a ticket, regardless of whether it’s a park hopper. See our article on Fastpasses HERE. The park hopper’s only function is allowing you to visit multiple Disney parks in a single day.

    • I have been looking for disney offers. Not sure where all to look but found a deal from funjet. It says its a dining plan w ticket purchase but I need to call funjet to find out if any park tickets are included. If I add the hooper tickets for two adults, for two days is $518. This seems high to me. I also looked at sea world tickets from funjet, for two adults and one day $176. Where can I get better lower prices?

      • Lili, it’s going to be tough to get prices lower than that. Our article on cheap tickets can give you a pretty good idea of the different places to get tickets. But for a short stay at Disney, it’s going to be tough to get any significant breaks. It’s expensive!

    • Hello I am going to dinsey world over Christmas this year we only going to be in dinsey for five days where can I get cheap tickets. Still unsure about the hopper pass I was thinking of getting fast pass. Please if any one please help me out that would be great I want to have ever thing done in these next couple months before we leave in December.

      • I’d check Best of Orlando for cheap 5 day tickets. The fastpass is free, you don’t have to pay any extra to get it. The hopper pass is up to you. Hopefully this page answered some questions. If not, I can answer them here for you.
