Today we are going to discuss fastpasses at Hollywood Studios. Epcot and Hollywood Studios both utilize a tiering system in their parks. Hollywood Studios has a lot of changes coming over the next year and this could lead to some major changes in how the fastpass system works at this park, so expect some of these things to change as we move into late 2019. In this article we’ll break down the Hollywood Studios Fastpass tiers and give you some tips that can help you to create a great plan.
Hollywood Studios Tiering System - How it Works
Each Disney guest gets 3 fastpasses per day, regardless of which park they are in. Hollywood Studios breaks things into 2 tiers, Tier 1 and Tier 2. The rides for each Tier are listed below. You’ll only get 1 fastpass for the attractions in Tier 1, and you’ll get 2 fastpasses for the attractions in Tier 2.
Once you’ve used 3 fastpasses, you’ll be able to get a 4th fastpass. You can use that 4th fastpass on either tier, as long as there is an available fastpass. For Hollywood Studios, there are a lot of good fastpasses, and we’ll give you some tips later on in the article.
Hollywood Studios Fastpass Tier 1
The following rides are Tier 1. You can only choose 1 of these attractions when making your fastpass selections. They are listed in order of preference.
Hollywood Studios Fastpass Tier 2
The following rides are Tier 2. You can choose 2 of these attractions when making your fastpass selections. They are listed in order of preference.
Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
For the First Time In Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Beauty & the Beast - Live on Stage
Disney Junior - Dance Party
Muppet Vision 3D
Best Hollywood Studios Tier 1 Fastpass
My recommendation for a Tier 1 fastpass is currently Slinky Dog Dash. It’s the ride with the longest wait time. This is an excellent new ride and I highly recommend it, even if you don’t have small kids. For my money, it’s better than Mine Train in the Magic Kingdom.
Toy Story Mania is still an excellent fastpass, but they expanded this attraction and wait times aren’t nearly as bad as they used to be. If you can’t get Slinky Dog, try to get a Toy Story Mania fastpass and you’ll be just fine.
I wouldn’t recommend using a Tier 1 fastpass on Alien Swirling Saucers.
Best Hollywood Studios Tier 2 Fastpass
Hollywood Studios has incredible Tier 2 fastpasses. Rock N Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror are two of our favorite attractions and the passage of time isn’t changing that. The fact that you can get both on a Tier 2 fastpass is incredible and really helps you plan an awesome day.
Star Tours is a solid bronze medal selection in Tier 2. Wait times are usually pretty low in the first few hours, so it’s not nearly as good of a value as it is for the previous two that we mentioned.
Fantasmic is a solid fastpass, but the problem with reserving a Fantasmic fastpass is that you’ll never get to use additional fastpasses, as you’ll be stuck with 3 all day. Unless you are determined to watch Fantasmic and get the best possible seats, I’d pass.
After these four, things go downhill rather quickly. There really isn’t another good remaining choice as most of these are shows and attractions that aren’t busy enough to require a fastpass.
Now that you know which Fastpasses to choose, it’s time to learn how to tour Hollywood Studios like a pro! Next, check out our Hollywood Studios touring plan to get free tips for touring this fantastic park.
